Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, Malaysia

Gobind Singh Deo, Malaysia’s Minister of Digital, will brief Asia House Corporate Members on digital policy developments in Malaysia at an off-the-record, in-person briefing at Asia House on Wednesday 12 June.   

Minister Gobind was appointed Malaysia’s first Minister of Digital in December 2023 following a government reshuffle that split the former Ministry of Communications and Digital into two separate entities. The newly established Ministry of Digital is tasked with overseeing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s ambitious agenda to transform Malaysia into a leading high-tech manufacturing hub, including positioning the country as “the most neutral and non-aligned location for semiconductor production”.  

During the briefing, Minister Gobind will provide updates on Malaysia’s digital infrastructure, covering topics including data centres, cloud and AI infrastructure and other emerging technologies. The Minister will also discuss opportunities for international businesses to invest in Malaysia’s digital economy, which the government aims to grow and to contribute just over a quarter of the nation’s GDP by 2025.  

The briefing will also touch upon Malaysia’s political stability under Prime Minister Anwar, following the political crisis between 2020 and 2022 that saw two successive coalition governments and two Prime Ministers resign.
