HE Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, Former Prime Minister of Malaysia
HE Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, Former Prime Minister of Malaysia and one of the most influential political figures in Asia over the last six decades, will share his insights on Malaysia, ASEAN and the role of China in the region, in an exclusive private briefing for Asia House Corporate Members.
Malaysia’s longest-serving prime minister will share his views on the country’s recent political developments which has been marked by instability and deep divisions. A general election in 2022 produced a hung parliament, with Anwar Ibrahim eventually appointed prime minister to lead a coalition government. Anwar faces the challenge of delivering reform and ending the period of political turbulence. Dr Mahathir will also discuss ASEAN and the bloc’s prospects for integration in the midst of escalating tensions between China and the US.
Widely credited for Malaysia’s early economic development, HE Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad was the Prime Minister of Malaysia for 24 years, between 1981 and 2003, and again from 2018 to 2020.
This off-the-record briefing is being convened exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members and will be moderated by Asia House Chief Executive, Michael Lawrence OBE. To register interest, please email Joanna Octavia, Head of Programming: joanna.octavia@asiahouse.co.uk
