HRH Khalid Bin Bandar Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the UK
Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the UK, HRH Khalid Bin Bandar Al Saud, will return to Asia House for a private briefing, offering businesses the opportunity to engage with one of the Kingdom’s most senior diplomats and a key figure in forging closer UK-Saudi commercial ties.
Saudi Arabia’s objectives in the lead up to COP28 and its wider environmental sustainability strategy will be in focus during the private discussion as part of Asia House’s COP28 programme on Tuesday 28 February.
Saudi Arabia has hastened its drive to become more sustainable following its 2021 commitment to become net-zero by 2060. The Kingdom has also launched its Saudi Green Initiative, which has inaugurated over 60 initiatives to boost its renewable sector, develop Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage (CCUS) solutions for its hydrocarbons sector, and create a world-leading hydrogen economy. Saudi Arabia is also seeking US$32 billion in investment to build its mining sector and become a hub for the critical metals and minerals needed for the green transition.
COP28 will be a crucial moment in the global fight against climate change. As one of the world’s largest oil producers, Saudi Arabia will play an important role in upcoming climate discussions. UK Ambassador since March 2019, HRH Khalid Bin Bandar will outline Saudi Arabia’s plans to invest in a sustainable future, as well as progress made under the Saudi Green Initiative, and recent Saudi-UK cooperation on tackling climate change.
Held throughout the year, Asia House’s COP28 programme will convene senior policymakers and leading business figures to drive forward the global discussion on COP28 and sustainability, as well as amplify perspectives from Asia and the Middle East on climate change and the energy transition.
Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, this briefing for Asia House Corporate Members will be held under Asia House’s COP28 programme. To register interest in attending this briefing, please email Edward Danks, Programme Associate: edward.danks@asiahouse.co.uk
