Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR)
Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), will brief Asia House Corporate Members on the Hong Kong SAR government’s efforts to fortify Hong Kong’s position as an international financial centre, post-pandemic and post-security law, at an off-the-record Asia House digital briefing on Tuesday, 23 April.
Secretary Chan will share his insights on the government’s efforts to attract international businesses back into Hong Kong, and the importance of the city’s interconnectivity with the Greater Bay Area (GBA). The SAR’s business environment following recent legislative changes, as well as its continued role as a ‘gateway to Mainland China’, will also be discussed.
During the briefing, the financial secretary will also discuss the city’s ties with the Middle East and outline how Hong Kong is making a concerted effort to bring in new capital from the area. Since last year, Middle East sovereign funds have increasingly been active in Hong Kong’s stock market, in particular from Saudi Arabia.
Paul Chan was appointed Financial Secretary in January 2017. Previously, he served as Secretary for Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government from 2012 to 2017. Chan is a Certified Public Accountant and a former President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Chairman of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Hong Kong.
This off-the-record digital briefing will be moderated by Asia House Chief Executive, Michael Lawrence OBE, and will provide members with an exclusive opportunity to engage with one of Hong Kong’s senior officials.
