Raphael P.M. Lotilla, Secretary of Energy of the Philippines

Raphael P.M. Lotilla, Secretary of Energy of the Philippines, will brief Asia House Corporate Members on the Philippines energy transition and energy policy developments, at an off-the-record digital briefing on Thursday, 18 April.

Speaking from Manila, Secretary Lotilla’s briefing comes at a pivotal moment as the Philippines continues its renewable energy transition, with the country on track to reach its goal of 35 per cent renewable energy share by 2030 and 50 per cent by 2040.

Secretary Lotilla will update members on the Philippines’ progress in expanding its solar, wind and nuclear energy capabilities as it transitions away from coal power, which currently accounts for half of the country’s energy. International energy partnerships with countries including the US, Japan, Indonesia and the UK will also be discussed, as will the mechanisms and policies in place to attract greater foreign investment into the sector such as the Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP).

Secretary Lotilla will also be asked his views on current tensions in the South China Sea, with the disputed waters brimming with rare earth metals and oil, as well as a potential location for off-shore wind farms.

Secretary Lotilla is currently serving his second term as Secretary of Energy, having previously held the position during President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s administration from 2005 to 2007.

The digital briefing will be held exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members and moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE. To register interest, please email Thomas Scott-Bell, Programme Producer: thomas.scott-bell@asiahouse.co.uk
