Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General, ASEAN Economic Community
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is collectively the world’s fifth largest economy, boasting immense growth potential and a young workforce. In 2015, the 10-member grouping of countries launched the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), which envisioned ‘a highly integrated and cohesive region’ which is ‘competitive, innovative and dynamic’ by 2025.
As the AEC reaches its half-term mark, Asia House will welcome Satvinder Singh, the Deputy Secretary-General for the AEC, to brief Corporate Members on the progress being made towards its ambitious vision.
Speaking from Jakarta, Satvinder will share his priorities and strategies for the realisation of the ASEAN Economic Community’s aims and discuss efforts to increase ASEAN’s competitiveness for trade and investment. The Deputy Secretary-General will also share his perspectives on ASEAN’s potential to create alternative global supply chains; ASEAN’s role in contributing to regional and global economic recovery; and how digital integration can usher in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 in the region. With the AEC admitting in its own review that more needs to be done to achieve its vision, the Deputy Secretary-General will also discuss the progress being made towards its 2025 target.
Appointed in late March this year, Satvinder provides strategic advice to the Secretary-General of ASEAN for advancing ASEAN’s economic integration agenda. He leads the ASEAN Economic Community Department of the ASEAN Secretariat in implementing the AEC Blueprint 2025.
Before assuming this role, Satvinder was the Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Trade Connectivity & Business Services at Enterprise Singapore. With more than 27 years of experience in holding a variety of local, regional and global management positions across the region, he was instrumental in strengthening Singapore’s role as Asia’s trading hub as well as driving digitalisation efforts in Singapore amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
This digital briefing is being held exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members. Find out more about Corporate Membership at Asia House.
