Seth Tan, Executive Director of Infrastructure Asia
Infrastructure is key to Asia’s growth continuity – transportation, energy, water and urban solutions are what the fastest-growing region in the world depends on daily. It has means to improve the quality of living and enhance the social and economic growth. Yet, economic and social infrastructure investment in Asia faces a massive financing gap: in 2017 the Asian Development Bank (ADB) estimated that developing Asia requires US$26 trillion in infrastructure investment through 2030 to maintain its current growth momentum.
On 11 December, Asia House will host Seth Tan, the Executive Director of Infrastructure Asia. Infrastructure Asia is a regional infrastructure facilitation office under the Singapore Government that aims to harness the strengths of Singapore’s infrastructure ecosystem and development experience to support Asia’s social and economic growth through infrastructure development. During this briefing, Tan will outline the trends within the infrastructure sector in South and Southeast Asia and the issues around the Asian infrastructure gap. Topics to be covered include the mismatch between the demand and supply of private capital that could meet infrastructure demand, what can be done to support infrastructure financing and development in the region, and the available investment opportunities.
Prior to being appointed as head of Infrastructure Asia, Tan has helmed leadership roles in DBS Bank, BNP Paribas, Standard Bank, and Babcock & Brown, and was based overseas in China, Australia, Hong Kong. He has over 23 years of experience in the infrastructure sector, where he has worked across various infrastructure sub-segments.
