Sir Danny Alexander, Vice President and Corporate Secretary of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

Launched to help address the Asia Pacific’s multi-trillion-dollar infrastructure gap, the AIIB has grown into one of the world’s largest multilateral development banks, with 102 approved members and USD12.2 billion in investment for 64 projects in 18 countries. The UK was one of the first major Western countries to join the AIIB as a founding member, and in doing so paved the way for other Western powers to follow suit.

Throughout its five years of operations, the global environment under which the AIIB functions has undergone significant changes. During this briefing, Sir Danny will provide an update on the AIIB’s strategy in this new era and outline how the Bank is working with the private sector and other multilateral institutions to invest in infrastructure development and support global economic growth. Sir Danny will also provide reflections on the UK’s role in the Chinese-led bank, and the future of UK-Asian relations in light of recent political changes in the UK.

Appointed as Vice President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in 2016, Sir Danny Alexander is responsible for the Bank’s relations with its 102 approved members. Prior to joining the Bank, Sir Danny was the Chief Secretary to the Treasury and the MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey.

This briefing is exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members. For more information, please contact Nadine Golding at nadine.golding@asiahouse.co.uk.
