    The Asia House Annual Outlook 2025

    His Excellency Zheng Zeguang, China’s Ambassador to the UK, will deliver a keynote speech in person at the launch of the Asia House Annual Outlook 2025 on Thursday, 16 January.

    The report will show that Asia’s economic growth will outperform the rest of the world despite multiple risks, including a potential trade war and volatile global markets.

    Accelerated digital transformation, strong consumer demand and higher intra-regional trade will underpin this growth and enable Asia to defy global challenges. The report will highlight the Asia economies which will power ahead in 2025, including India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia.

    The event will open with remarks from Lord Stephen Green, Chairman of Asia House. Following the keynote speech, there will be a panel discussion moderated by Michael Lawrence OBE, Chief Executive of Asia House, with an opportunity for audience questions.

    KEYNOTE SPEAKER

    His Excellency Zheng Zeguang, China’s Ambassador to the UK

    HE Zheng Zeguang has been China’s Ambassador to the UK since 2021. Ambassador Zheng first joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in 1986 and went on to hold a number of Government role, including Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director General, Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China (MFA).

    Dr Jin Keyu, Professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Harvard University

    Dr. Keyu Jin is a global economist, professor at HKUST and Harvard, and author of The New China Playbook, named a must-read by Fortune and a Best Summer Book by the Financial Times in 2023. Her expertise includes international macroeconomics, technology competition, and the Chinese economy, with research published in top journals like the American Economic Review. She serves on the boards of Richemont and Jardine Matheson, and advises the Qatari government and World Bank President Ajay Banga. Dr. Jin has taught at Yale and Berkeley and holds a BA, MA, and PhD from Harvard.


    Mallika Ishwaran, Chief Economist at Shell 

    Mallika is Shell’s Chief Economist. She advises on macroeconomic issues, economic trends, and related policy matters to shape Shell’s long-term scenario outlooks. She leads strategic engagements on energy transitions with national and city governments across the world, notably a multi-year collaboration with the Chinese government. Prior to joining Shell, she was Deputy Director at DEFRA and has held senior positions across the UK government, including at the Cabinet Office as Head of Policy Analysis for the 2009 G20 London Summit


    Michael Birshan, Senior Partner and Global Leader of Strategy & Corporate Finance Practice at McKinsey

    Michael co-leads McKinsey’s global Strategy & Corporate Finance Practice and serves on the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) council, which advises on research into global economic, business, and technology trends. He collaborates with senior executives across industries to set strategy, drive organisational transformation, and deliver sustainable value, with a particular focus on energy, natural resources, and industrials. His insights have been featured in leading publications such as McKinsey QuarterlyHarvard Business Review, and the Financial Times.


    Dr Gerard Lyons, Senior Independent Director, Bank of China (UK) 

    Dr Gerard Lyons is a prominent economist, described by The Times as one of the most influential analysts of the global economy. He is Senior Independent Director at Bank of China (UK), Chair of the Risk Committee at BGC Partners, and Chief Economic Strategist at Netwealth Investments, which he co-founded in 2016. Gerard has advised Boris Johnson and Gordon Brown and was a candidate for Governor of the Bank of England in 2019. He also contributes to environmental policy through the Grantham Research Institute and the Bretton Woods Committee’s Climate and Energy Transition Finance project. He has held influential roles with the EU Commission’s Network of China Experts and the World Economic Forum. In 2021, he was appointed to the UK Economy Honours Committee.
