European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that the European Union (EU) and China now have the responsibility to fight for globalisation.

Juncker was speaking at the EU-China Business Summit in Brussels today.

China’s Prime Minister Li Keqiang stressed that the EU and China share the same philosophy on major international issues, including globalisation.

Their speeches were followed by Cecilia Malmström, EU Commissioner for Trade, who said that protectionism is a risk to Europe and a risk to the world.

The Summit is being held one day after US President Donald Trump announced the US withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement. The EU and China both have stressed their ongoing commitment to the Paris deal.
