US President Donald Trump indicated that the US is prepared to take unilateral action against North Korea, in an interview with the FT today.

The US has been stepping up the rhetoric on North Korea after the country continues with its nuclear weapons testing programme in the South China Sea, raising fears that missiles could target US soil.

“China has great influence over North Korea. And China will either decide to help us with North Korea, or they won’t”, Trump said.

Trump’s statement on Pyongyang comes ahead of his meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Florida this week, where security and trade are high on the agenda.

The US President said, “trade is the incentive. It is all about trade’, later tweeting  “the meeting next week with China will be a very difficult one in that we can no longer have massive trade deficits”.
