With six months to go until Indonesians head to the polls, Asia House Research and Advisory have prepared a new briefing note exploring the issues that will loom large during the campaigns.
Indonesia – South East Asia’s biggest economy, most populous nation and most robust democracy – has begun its presidential race for the 2019 April elections. The incumbent Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is pitted against his 2014 rival, former lieutenant general and politically well-connected Prabowo Subianto.
The scenes for the campaign have been set; each candidate has positioned themselves with their running mates and Prabowo has already started his attack. Globally relevant trends such as economic reform, social inequality, identity politics and fake news will all feature.
Asia House Research and Advisory has prepared a briefing paper exploring the main factors that could define next year’s election.
