World Trade Organization (WTO) Deputy Director-General Angela Ellard joined Asia House Corporate Members on Tuesday 3 October for an off-the-record digital briefing on the WTO’s reform agenda, key priorities and expectations ahead of next year’s 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13).
DDG Ellard discussed the WTO’s outlook on global free trade and key priorities for the organization over the coming months, including the environment, technology, agriculture, food security and e-commerce.
Asia House Corporate Members had the opportunity to ask DDG Ellard about topics including the likelihood of reforms to the WTO’s dispute settlement mechanism and whether the Appellate Body would be functioning again by MC13.
Moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE, the briefing gave Corporate Members unique insights into the role of WTO in developing the global trade landscape, and how the organization is carving space for both emerging and established countries to continue addressing gaps in development and the fairness of trade deals at a time of great geopolitical turbulence.
