The Chairman of one of the world’s most innovative design and engineering firms will be speaking at Asia House’s signature conference in Singapore.
Gregory Hodkinson, Chairman of Arup, will take part in the Asia Trade in the New Global Order conference on 22 November.
With the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) set to be a key discussion point at the conference, Hodkinson will bring unique insights on the Beijing-backed programme, as well as the wider infrastructure picture in Asia.
Earlier this year, Arup signed two deals with Chinese partners to unlock business opportunities along the Belt and Road. The firm signed MoUs with China Overseas Engineering Group Co Ltd and Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co Ltd to support the development of critical infrastructure along BRI routes. Hodkinson signed the deals in the company of UK International Trade Secretary Liam Fox during Prime Minister Theresa May’s visit to China in February.
The BRI offers major opportunities for businesses from an array of sectors, including professional services, finance, planning and insurance. Last week, former BBC China Editor Carrie Gracie told an Asia House audience that “it would be smart for people to understand it, pay attention to it, and if you’re in the private sector, surf it wherever possible.”
One of the panel sessions at the Asia Trade in the New Global Order conference, which is sponsored by Arup, focuses on the ‘Belt and Road Initiative and the New Reality.’
The major trade dialogue will bring leading figures from business and diplomacy together to discuss the challenges facing global trade and business today, from policy shifts to the impact of new technologies.
