Driving commercial and political engagement between Asia, the Middle East and Europe
Following an invitation from the Philippine Department of Trade & Industry, Asia House CEO Michael Lawrence met with President of the Philippines H.E. Benigno S. Aquino III in Brussels on Tuesday, 16 September to explore further cooperation between Asia House and the government of the Philippines. President Aquino was accompanied by Philippine Secretary of Trade & Industry Gregory L. Domingo, Undersecretary of Trade & Industry Ponciano C. Manalo Jr., and Albert F. Del Rosario, Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
Mr Lawrence was accompanied by Asia House Director of Corporate Affairs Charlie Humphreys who is responsible for the Asia House Business & Policy programme which seeks to enhance economic and commercial links between Asia and the West.
President Aquino and Mr Lawrence discussed the recent success of Asia House organised events in London to promote understanding of trade and investment opportunities in the Philippines. Other topics at the meeting included the development of UK-Philippines trade and economic links, the challenges posed to raising the profile of trade and investment with the Philippines in the UK and the Philippines relationship with ASEAN (The Association of Southeast Asian Nations).
