    Brexit discussed by Asia-Pacific Heads of Missions

    The Hon Alexander Downer AC, Australian High Commissioner to the UK, H.E. Dr. Rizal Sukma, Indonesian Ambassador to the UK, and H.E. Evan Garcia, Philippine Ambassador to the UK, joined Asia House corporate members and selected participants on Wednesday for a private roundtable discussion on the impact of Brexit on future trade with the Asia-Pacific region.

    Topics discussed included London’s future as a global financial centre, expected UK-EU trade relations, possible free trade agreements (FTAs) with Asia-Pacific nations – particularly ASEAN and the negotiation challenges facing UK Government departments.

    Multinational Companies represented at the table included Arup, BP, Debenhams, HSBC, Jardine Matheson, KPMG, Mitsui & Co., Prudential, Rio Tinto and Standard Chartered.

    Other Asian Missions in London represented included Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Hong Kong, China and Malaysia.

    Catherine Barnard, Professor of European Union Law, University of Cambridge, will explain the legal procedures of Brexit at an event on 28 July.
