    Published On: 12 October 2021

Asia House Corporate Members were updated on the political and business environment in Hong Kong today (12 October) during a briefing with Brian Davidson, UK Consul General to Hong Kong SAR.

Davidson shared his insights on the political situation in the territory, as well as the current business sentiment and economic outlook for the region. He also outlined his priorities in post, at what is a challenging time for UK-Hong Kong relations.

Asia House Corporate Members joined the off-the-record briefing from around the world, with the Consul General taking a range of questions. Issues raised included the UK’s approach to engagement with Hong Kong; areas of potential bilateral cooperation; and the robustness and independence of the SAR’s judiciary. Davidson was also asked about the competition posed by Singapore to Hong Kong’s status as a key regional finance hub.

Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, the discussion gave Corporate Members the chance to stay fully briefed on one of the world’s major business centres.
