Topics covered at the briefing included the opportunities for UK businesses looking to invest in Myanmar as well as the challenges that could be faced, the country’s rule of law, infrastructure deficit and political developments that have been made after the NLD formally took power on 1 April 2016, as well as Myanmar’s relationship with China.
Corporate members represented at the briefing included Anglo American, Standard Chartered, Liverpool FC, GSK, Jardines, Lloyds Banking Group, Prudential and Diageo.
* The British Government refers to the country as Burma because the unelected military regime, which changed the name to Myanmar in 1989, was not legitimate and the people of Burma were not consulted.
