Dominic Jermey CVO, OBE, UK Ambassador to Indonesia & Timor-Leste

    Published On: 16 October 2023

Dominic Jermey CVO, OBE, the newly appointed UK Ambassador to Indonesia & Timor-Leste, spoke at Asia House on Friday 13 October in a private, off-the-record briefing on UK-Indonesia trade relations, the outlook for the impending Indonesian elections, and the implications of Indonesia’s diplomatic power on the UK’s Indo-Pacific Tilt.

Dominic briefed Asia House Corporate Members on the UK-Indonesia’s bilateral roadmap and strategic engagements in areas such as the JETP, low carbon infrastructure plan, and sustainable capital city development. The prospect of trade deals between the two countries, such as an FTA between the UK and Indonesia, was also discussed during the briefing.

Indonesia’s rising international influence, first as G20 President in 2022 and more recently as ASEAN Chair in 2023, demonstrates the country’s increasingly significant role in regional and global affairs. Dominic discussed what the upcoming UK and Indonesian election outcomes might mean for the UK’s Indo-Pacific tilt and Indonesia’s future policy direction.

Chaired by Charlie Humphreys, Director of Corporate Affairs at Asia House, the briefing gave Asia House Corporate Members an insightful perspective into Indonesia’s current ties with the UK and the outlook for their future relationship amid shifting global dynamics.
