The contribution of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to Indonesia’s economy was the focus of an Asia House briefing with Erick Thohir, Indonesia’s Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, on 30 September.
Speaking with Asia House Corporate Members in London, Minister Thohir discussed recent reforms in Indonesia’s SOE environment, and opportunities for the private sector to engage with mutually beneficial partnerships.
The Minister also outlined Indonesia’s ambitions for the digital economy and discussed key sectors of interest, including electric vehicles, renewable energy and healthcare.
Asia House Corporate Members joined the in-person briefing to engage with the Minister and a delegation of major Indonesian SOEs, with a range of questions coming from around the table.
Minister Thohir was asked about further reforms in the SOE sector, whether SOEs are looking to invest in UK capital markets, and what criteria SOEs consider in potential private partnerships. Financial developments around Indonesia’s energy transition and efforts to tackle climate change were also discussed.
Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, the briefing provided a unique opportunity for Corporate Members to engage with a key minister from Southeast Asia’s largest economy, just weeks before the G20 Summit in Bali.
