Gulf and China experts assemble to discuss digital cooperation

    Published On: 1 August 2024

In partnership with the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB), Asia House held a virtual roundtable to explore the growing digital cooperation between China and the Gulf on Wednesday 31 July.

Professor Sun Tianshu, Dean’s Distinguished Chair Professor of Information Systems and Director of the Center for Digital Transformation at CKGSB, opened the discussion with a presentation on China’s digital transformation and highlighted the current trends within the global digital landscape, making comparisons between China, the US, and the Gulf.

The roundtable convened experts and business leaders across China and the Gulf’s digital economies. Participants exchanged views on a wide range of topics, including the emerging synergies between China and the Gulf’s digital ambitions and the opportunities for Chinese and Gulf businesses across several fields such as AI, data, cloud technology, fintech, and smart cities.

The opportunities and obstacles associated with China-Gulf digital cooperation as well as pursuing digitalisation more widely were also discussed, including the impact of US-China tensions on digital cooperation. The importance of partnerships and joint ventures to encourage collaboration was also highlighted.

Moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE, the roundtable offered participants valuable insights into the opportunities for digital collaboration between the two regions, and how to capitalise on them.
