HE Helal Al-Marri outlines new opportunities emerging in Dubai amid rapid reforms

    Published On: 15 March 2022

The opportunities emerging in Dubai amid rapid economic and social reforms across the UAE were central to an Asia House discussion with HE Helal Al Marri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Economy, today (15 March).

Speaking to Asia House’s corporate network as part of the Asia House Middle East Programme, the DG outlined Dubai’s progress towards meeting its ambitious aims to boost tourism and attract global talent to the region.

Al-Marri took a range of questions from members of Asia House’s global network, including Corporate Members, who joined the discussion from Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

He was asked about Dubai’s 2040 Masterplan and its prospects for meeting its 2050 climate targets; regulatory developments around pharma and healthcare; and how reforms were being received within the UAE, particularly among SMEs.

Dubai’s strategy to develop as an innovation hub, including the need to attract VCs and build an investment ecosystem, was also discussed, as were ways in which Dubai can build stronger trade and investment links with other regions, including Africa and the wider Middle East.

Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, the discussion provided unique insights on Dubai’s economic trajectory at a pivotal time for the region.
