With the UK developing new trade relationships across Asia in preparation for a post-Brexit future, Asia House welcomed the newly-appointed Minister for Asia and the Pacific at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Heather Wheeler MP, to brief Corporate Members on current progress.
In one of her first engagements with the private sector since taking office, the Minister set out the UK’s prospects and priorities in Asia before taking part in a lively discussion with senior business figures.
Wheeler highlighted the importance of Asia to the UK government and set out some of the proactive steps being taken to boost trade with the region. The Minister also answered a range of questions on topics including the Belt and Road Initiative, the UK’s relationship with ASEAN and the government’s approach to new FTAs.
Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, the off-the-record briefing was held exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members.
