Kerry Brown, Professor of Chinese Studies and Director of the Lau China Institute at King’s College London, launched his widely anticipated new book, The Great Reversal: Britain, China, and the 400-Year Contest for Power, at Asia House on Tuesday 9 July.
Brown briefed a packed audience on the changing relations between the two nations, and then took part in a wide-ranging Q&A session with Asia House Chairman, Lord Stephen Green.
During his opening remarks, Brown delved into China’s development through a British lens, highlighting asymmetries in the economic, military, geopolitical, intellectual, and cultural narratives. The audience, comprising Asia House’s wider business, policy, and diplomatic network, asked Brown’s insights on the future of bilateral policy between the UK and China, as well as his perspectives on the state of Chinese studies within UK universities.
Chaired by Asia House Chairman Lord Stephen Green, the event provided the audience with valuable insights into China’s marathon into modernity and the UK-China relationship.
