Some of the world’s leading influencers on Asian trade and investment will be in Hong Kong on 27 November for the first ‘Asia Trade in the New Global Order’ conference, organised by Asia House.
Keynote speakers for the conference include The Hon Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; HE Le Luong Minh, Secretary General of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN); and HE Tran Quoc Khanh, Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Vietnam.
Panellists include Tony Fernandes, founder and Group CEO of Air Asia; Cesar Purisima, Asia Fellow at the Milken Institute and former Philippine Secretary of Finance; and Jamil Anderlini, Asia Editor for the Financial Times.
The conference will follow the signing of the free trade agreement between Hong Kong and ASEAN, expected to present major opportunities for businesses and investors, and comes at a time when the global trade architecture is in the midst of dramatic change.
A new trade order?
The withdrawal of the US from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, ongoing uncertainty around Brexit, and growing economic nationalism around the world have shaken the trade landscape.
Meanwhile, in Asia, China continues to push the globalisation agenda through initiatives such as Belt and Road, and ASEAN pushes towards further integration.
This is creating an Eastern shift in the trade dynamic.
The exclusive conference, held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong, is set to provide insights and analysis on this new trade order and the emerging opportunities in the region, as well as the chance for delegates to network with influential thought leaders from government, industry, academia and the media.
Sessions in the conference, which will be opened with remarks by Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint, Chairman of Asia House, include ‘Asia Trade in the New Global Order’, ‘Trade and Investment in ASEAN’, and ‘Connectivity in Asia’. A gala dinner will be held in the evening, where the Asia House Asian Business Leaders Award 2017 will be presented.
