Malaysia’s Minister for International Trade and Industry briefs Asia House

    Published On: 27 January 2020

Malaysia hosts the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit this year amid a lively domestic political landscape and a continuing push for digitisation under its Industry 4.0 initiative. To provide Corporate Members with a clearer understanding of what these and other developments will mean for trade and investment in Malaysia, Asia House welcomed Y.B. Datuk Ignatius Darell Leiking, Minister for International Trade and Industry, for an exclusive briefing.

The Minister discussed Malaysia’s regional trade relationships and the opportunities arising from the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which is set to be signed off this year. The prospect of the UK joining RCEP was also discussed, as were Malaysia-UK relations post-Brexit.

The Minister also outlined Malaysia’s aims for the APEC summit, which it hosts in November.

The briefing, chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, was held exclusively for for Asia House Corporate Members.
