Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence along with Head of Research and Advisory Zhouchen Mao were invited to attend the annual Mongolia Economic Forum on 9 and 10 July 2023 in Ulaanbaatar. This major summit is Mongolia’s premier platform to address the most critical economic and social issues facing the country. Michael Lawrence moderated for the Plenary Session on Mongolia’s economy and sustainable growth which followed a keynote presentation given by Zhouchen Mao which detailed the findings of Mongolia’s Economic Outlook: Recovery & Resilience, an original Asia House research report encompassing an overview of Mongolia’s economic outlook and an in-depth analysis of its reform programme. The report conducted a comprehensive assessment of Mongolia’s trade and investment relationships and outlined key risks to the economy. This research was undertaken with the generous support of the Government of Mongolia.
Michael Lawrence and Zhouchen Mao also spoke to TenGer TV in Ulaanbaatar and discussed their insights on Mongolia’s economic roadmap. They also spoke about their experiences attending the forum. Zhouchen Mao spoke to the media outlet about the research undertaken by Asia House which contributed to the report and discussed how focusing on the ‘six pillars’ of the Mongolian government’s New Recovery Policy was a key factor in producing comprehensive research. Michael Lawrence also shared his views with the media on the growing possibilities and challenges faced by the emerging Mongolian economy, along with emphasising a need for the Mongolian economy to diversify.
