Professor Jim Skea, the newly elected Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), joined Asia House Corporate Members on Wednesday, 18 October for an off-the-record digital briefing on the IPCC’s aspirations for the COP28 Summit and the actions businesses can take to respond to the climate crisis.
Professor Skea highlighted his expectations for the outcomes of the upcoming UN climate conference, the significance of countries’ actions in the global pathway to net zero, and the IPCC’s engagement with businesses in sectors such as finance and energy. The briefing also included a discussion on voluntary carbon markets and innovative technologies in carbon removal, including the development and application of carbon capture and storage.
Asia House Corporate Members asked Professor Skea his views on a wide range of topics, including the health implications of the climate crisis, the political environment influencing the transition, the multiplicity of standards in sustainability reporting, and the prospect of IPCC reforms.
Moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE, the briefing gave Asia House Corporate Members a unique opportunity to engage with the world’s leading climate science authority chief and gain insights into the scientific evidence underlying policy decisions.
