Sarah Tiffin, UK Ambassador to ASEAN briefed Asia House Corporate Members on the current outlook of ASEAN-UK relations and the future of deepening business and investment links in the region on Monday 12 June.
As the first country granted dialogue partner status by ASEAN in 25 years, Ambassador Tiffin discussed the renewed focus on the ‘ASEAN way’ with an emphasis on regional and international fairness. The discussion also emphasised on how the UK government aims at creating a mutually enriching relationship between the two regions through a vibrant exchange of skills, knowledge and expertise. Ambassador Tiffin also spoke about the programme initiatives on economic reform, green transition, health security, girls education and peace & security introduced by the UK to the ASEAN committees.
Chaired by Asia House Director of Corporate Affairs Charlie Humphreys and held at the think tank’s London headquarters, the briefing gave Asia House Corporate Members a unique insight into UK’s current strategic outlook on the ASEAN bloc and facilitated an open discussion on the strategic importance of the dialogue partner status between the regions.
