Saudi Arabia’s energy transition strategy was the focus of a briefing for Asia House Corporate Members with the country’s Ambassador to the UK – HRH Khalid bin Bandar Al Saud – on 28 February.
As part of Asia House’s COP28 Programme, the briefing explored Saudi Arabia’s approach to climate change, sustainability, and energy security. In addition, Saudi Arabia’s rapid economic and social reforms were also discussed.
Also touched on in the discussion was Saudi Arabia’s relationship with China following President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the Kingdom, where multiple investments – including in renewables – were announced.
Corporate Members asked the Ambassador what the Kingdom’s priorities were for COP28, as well as the key sectors and internal infrastructure Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund was likely to invest in next.
Saudi Arabia’s investments in education, upskilling its young population, and development of the Kingdom’s manufacturing sector were also explored.
Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE and held at the think tank’s London headquarters, the briefing gave Asia House Corporate Members a unique insight into Saudi Arabia’s energy transition strategy and goals for COP28, heading into a critical period for global sustainability.
