Asian Business Leaders Award Dinner 2016

On 1 November 2016 Hiroaki Nakanishi, Chairman of the Board, Representative Executive Officer, Hitachi, Ltd., will receive the prestigious Asia House Asian Business Leaders Award for 2016 at our annual Gala Award Dinner to be held at Banqueting House, Whitehall. The Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, UK Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, will make remarks at the dinner.

Asia House presents this annual Award to those individuals who exemplify the concept of the ‘Servant Leader’. This Award highlights the links between economic success, professional excellence, moral leadership and service to society.

Mr Nakanishi was selected as the recipient of this year’s award in recognition of his achievements over the course of his five-year tenure at the helm of Hitachi, a Japanese multinational conglomerate company headquartered in Tokyo.

Mr Nakanishi has led one of the most remarkable turnarounds in Japanese corporate history. He made several bold decisions to restructure Hitachi and bring the company back into profit after having suffered four years of losses amounting to nearly US $10 billion. Under Mr Nakanishi’s leadership, Hitachi continues to reinvent itself, placing Social Innovation at the core of its future development.

The Gala Evening celebrates the enormous social impact of commercial enterprise which, at its best, promotes values of leadership and service that can be felt far beyond the boardroom. Tremendous opportunities for social change are created by business leaders through these shared values. By recognising individuals who embody the ‘Servant Leader’ ideal, we seek to encourage widespread recognition and adoption of these values among the global business community.

In addition, the evening provides an opportunity to join us in celebrating the vital work of Asia House as well as helping to deliver our mission to bring the UK and Asia closer through our pioneering activities in business, policy and culture.

Funds raised from the dinner contribute directly towards the success of our programmes, the highlights of which include our conferences, policy briefings, film and literature festivals.

The event will be attended by political figures, senior business leaders, London’s Asian Heads of Mission and opinion formers.
