Christine Loh discusses Asia’s climate change ambitions

With economies across Asia making carbon neutrality commitments, Asia House welcomed Professor Christine Loh, former Under-Secretary for the Environment, Hong Kong SAR, to share her insights on whether such ambitions will be realised.

Loh, who is a Visiting Professor at the Anderson School of Management, University of California, outlined the scale of the task facing policymakers in achieving net-zero carbon emissions, and shared her thoughts on China’s climate change agenda and its timeline for reaching carbon neutrality by 2060.

Asia House Corporate Members joined the briefing, held as part of the Asia House COP26 Programme, to gain insights on this critical global issue. Professor Loh was asked a range of questions, including the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on Asia’s sustainability agenda; the role of Hong Kong as a global green finance centre; and potential policy directions in China. Regulatory issues and frameworks were also discussed, as was the upcoming COP26 in Glasgow and the Biodiversity COP in Kunming.

The briefing, chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, was convened exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members.
