German diplomat Wolfgang Ischinger to join Asia House conference in Dubai

    Published On: 4 April 2018

A distinguished German diplomat will be joining the line-up of influential speakers at Asia House’s major conference in Dubai this month.

Wolfgang Ischinger served as German Ambassador to the United States and the United Kingdom during an impressive diplomatic career. He will be sharing his insights at The New Global Trade Order conference, taking place in Dubai on 22 April.

Held in partnership with DMCC, the conference will explore the shifts currently taking place in the global trade architecture and the forces driving this change, including trade policy, economic developments and the impact of technology. It will also focus on how the Middle East will be affected by these changes in global trade.

Non-oil trade between the UAE and Germany peaked at Dh 40bn (US$ 10.8bn) in 2017, highlighting the strength of economic relations between the two countries. Last year, the UAE and Germany signed a partnership to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector, with the agreement covering topics such as renewable energy technology, energy efficiency and research and development.

Mr Ischinger, who has published widely on foreign policy and security issues and is currently a Member of the European Advisory Board at Investcorp, will bring a unique perspective to what promises to be a compelling discussion on global trade and investment.
