John Murton shares latest thinking on COP26 engagement

    Published On: 15 April 2021

Ahead of the COP26 summit in November, Asia House welcomed the UK’s COP26 Envoy, John Murton, to brief Corporate Members on the progress being made on climate mitigation and the efforts to engage with Asian markets.

Murton outlined the latest thinking around COP26, including the approach to issues such as mitigation, resilience, finance, and international cooperation, as well as recent trends across energy transition.

Asia House Corporate Members joined the discussion from around the world, with Murton asked questions on nature-based solutions, carbon market regulation, engagement with the oil and gas industry, and capturing the learnings of different sectors. Murton was also asked how businesses can play a greater role in shaping COP26 engagement with emerging markets, where economic recovery pressures could lead to pushback against the climate agenda.

The off-the-record briefing, chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, was convened as part of the Asia House COP26 Programme, and provided a key opportunity for Corporate Members to hear the latest thinking on COP26 and engage with the key global issue of climate change.
